University Heights Baptist Church. . . .

Where Children are both seen and heard.  

Faith in Christ is an active hands-on experience for the children of University Heights Baptist Church.     The CiA (Children in Action) Ministry believes the command from Deuteronomy 6

"Write these commandments that I've given you today on your hearts. Get them inside of you and then get them inside your children. Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning to when you fall into bed at night."

Children's ministry at University Heights Baptist Church provides opportunity for children to learn by doing.  Bible Skills and principals are taught not only with word but also with hands-on application and experience.  Children often lead in worship experiences not only in worship times designed specifically for them but in adult worship as well.  Some ways our children are involved in worship at UHBC are:

Invocation and Offering Prayers

Worship through Music

Special Worship Services Lead Entirely By Children

Testimony

Children learn about missionaries but they also learn to pray for missionaries, give to missions and to do missions.  Some of our hands on mission experience of the past have been:

Socks for Saints where children collected new socks and underwear to be distributed through the Springfield School Districts clothes closet.
Adopting a special medical needs child from Nicaragua through Rainbow Network.  Children raised $500 for this child by collecting pennies and spare change from the church congregation.
Blankets for the Missouri Baptist Children's Home.  Our younger missionaries tied fleece blankets for the residents of the Missouri Baptist Children's Home.  Each blanket was delivered with a hand written note of encouragement and a picture of the children at UHBC for the children of the MBCH.
CARE packages for the service men and women affiliated with our congregation who are serving throughout the world.
Visiting in the Pediatric Floor of the local hospitals.
Visiting and corresponding with the older adults of our congregation.
Each year the children of University Heights Baptist Church are truly in action with new mission projects, being the body of Christ in word and in deed.

Children's spiritual formation is a partnership of parents, family and the church.  Parents receive a weekly newsletter keeping them informed about the learning activities of their children at church.  Suggestions are made in the newsletter about ways to reinforce the faith process in the family devotion time.  Classes are offered periodically to encourage parents in their parenting process and in the relationships they have with their mate.  Parent's Nights Out are held regularly to give couples a chance to rejuvenate and enjoy one another's company.  Regular communication on improving communication with your mate is offered to parents.  Ministry to the parents is seen as a vital part of ministry to children.  Examples of this ministry include:
